It's all about the Puudel! Day 2

Well today was my first full day here...

Today was all about my lunch... Dorka said I should give this cafe a try called Muust Puudel... IT WAS AMAZING! Couldn't be more up my street!

Its full of old 70s/80s furniture from the soviet days and the staff are great.

The last time I was in Tallinn I wanted to go to the KGB museum tour on the top floor of the Viru Hotel in town but it was fully booked... So today I managed to get a ticket. I really recommend it if you're ever over this way - the tour guide Margrit had bags of personality and there's some really funny/interesting facts about the hotel, it's guests and the scary KGBs happenings during their power.

The day ended on a high... There were 2 bands on in the hostel called TENDERFIST (from Malaysia) and THE TREES AND THE WILD (from Indonesia) who ended up being really good...

First day of work tomorrow!

I've Arrived! Day 1

Well after 5 minutes of last minute prep for a plan that's been in place since July, I've finally arrived in Estonia!

I have to say, I'm missing a few special people from home already, but I'm still excited!

Here's to an exciting winter in Tallinn!

Talking Eesti

As my preparations get underway, I've started to try and teach myself a bit of the local lingo before I arrive in Tallinn... I've been sticking notes like these up all around the house!!

Tere Hommikust!

The Adventure Begins...

Tere! - Thats Hello in Estonian!

This blog is here as a sort of diary to document my winter adventure to Tallinn, Estonia.

This is all very exciting, but first - a little background information on how it all came about...

I'm Adam, 24, originally from Nottingham in the UK and now living in Birmingham. 2012 has been the best year I've ever had! At new year I decided to make a resolution to leave my old job as a supervisor at TOPMAN and go and pursue something a little different. I managed to bag myself a job with bmibaby as cabin crew and it genuinely has been the best decision I ever made. Unfortunately, British Airways have bought the company and are closing it down in September. I've been fortunate enough to have been offered a new job already with Monarch Airlines, but the problem is I dont actually start until January.

No prizes for noticing that I have a gap to fill.

Thats why I decided to reply to a job ad posted on the web for a hostel in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia in North-Eastern Europe. I've been here 5 times already and it's genuinely one of my favorite cities in the world...

The icing on the big 2012 cake came when the guys at Red Emperor Hostel invited me to go and live/work with them, and in September I'll be jetting off to live abroad for the first time for 3 months in the FREEZING COLD Baltic winter.

Stay tuned to BalticBown for regular updates on my preparations, plans and anticipations...

The adventure starts here, and I can't wait!!
